Synopsis
Art the Clown is ready to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they sleep peacefully on Christmas Eve. Director Damien Leone said that several major studios have shown interest in financing this film based on the unexpected success of Terrifier 2. (2022), even without a full script, but he turned them all down because he is sure that would never let him film the opening scene alone, which he describes as “very controversial”. Leone has commented that the only reason he can be so uncompromising in his depiction of horror and gore is because he finances his films independently, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and has no major studio breathing on his neck to make more popular film.. Mia mentions that the 5 year anniversary of the original massacre was coming up soon but it was on Halloween 5 years later would mean the anniversary had just passed 2 months ago.. Bro Julia: Julia, I thought you said stay away from me -[Art kills him with the axe] . Includes Terrifier 2 (2022).
This Terrifier series is fascinating
A work of art, written by Drew Fulk, Joe Occhiuti, Paul Wiley, Spencer Charnas and Steve Sopchak, performed by Ice Nine Kills and Shavo Odadjian. The first film is kind of lame, with nothing memorable narratively or cinematically, really, beyond the introduction of a memorable villain and some impressively gruesome violence. It’s a slasher film that isn’t stripped down to its bare essentials, but pushed forward somehow. It’s a pretty much nothing movie, without a plot and seemingly without a care. Then the second came out, made the villain even more memorable and had bloodshed scenes that proved more shocking. It also had a pretty good story and character development (I don’t think it’s a popular opinion, but I liked it) and introduced more of, for lack of a better word, intriguing series mythology. Terrifier 3 takes all the things the second movie did well and I think it does it even better.
Violence is disgusting
Terrifier 2 felt a bit too long at 138 minutes with Terrifier 3’s slightly shorter runtime helping the pacing immensely. I still feel surprisingly invested in this series, which is shaping up to be something truly fantastic. They might end up overdoing that side of things, and they almost do here, but I really understand what these movies have evolved into. It’s at least as sadistic as the second one, maybe more so. Art the Clown is hilarious when he’s not killing people, but I deeply hate him. I love to hate him. Unironically, one of the best villains of the last 10 years.
Chainsaws have never sounded louder
He is Harpo Marx if Harpo was also a serial killer. The final act lifted this film enormously. I was worried I was going to have a panic attack and felt nauseous. I feel a little shaken after the whole thing now that it’s over. The sadistic violence played separately, but I think I cared too. All of these characters have suffered so much and I was so invested in them winning. The final scenes had me squirming in my seat, more because I was invested, rather than the violence.
I think it’s impressive, or maybe I’m easily distracted
There are a few scenes here that feel too cheap, and the pacing isn’t perfect. Occasional rough line deliveries and inconsistent action here and there as well. It kind of ties the first movie and the second together in a way that felt kind of harsh from the start. But much of the second half felt so edgy and I have to celebrate a movie that makes me like that. The last month has had some major disappointments in terms of new release, so I’m very happy that Terrifier 3 was a movie that exceeded my expectations. This is the best of the series so far…
